This very popular Port Hills track will lead you up through changing vegetation to a perfect view over the city to the Southern Alps.

Start: Victoria Park Visitor Centre, Port Hills.

Finish: Sign of the Kiwi.

Distance: 2km.

Time: 1 hour one way.

Toilets: Located at Victoria Park and Sign of the Kiwi.

Dogs: Must be kept on a leash.

Description:

There are a number of entry points on the track from Dyers Pass Road and from Victoria Park.

If you start from the rear of the Visitor Centre in Victoria Park, zigzag down through the native plantings to cross Victoria Park Road and continue downhill in the same direction to the junction with the Harry Ell Walkway. Turn left and walk up the well maintained track which climbs gradually through a mixture of native and exotic woodland before emerging at the Summit Road, 100 metres from the Sign of the Kiwi.

To return, head back the same way or link up with Thomsons Track and Latters Spur or use the Bowenvale Valley Track to get back to Victoria Park.
